Why I love Spring Football?
- It gives your coaches and kids a chance to get out of the weight room for a couple weeks and play some football. It really breaks up the monotony and the grind of the weight program.
- Because there isn't a game to prepare for, it gives your coaches an opportunity to give special attention to some kids that may not play on Friday night's in the fall. It is a great chance to build depth.
- It gives kids that have joined the team in the off season a chance to try out football.
- I don't know about you guys, but we try to recruit the heck out of our hallways. This means we sometimes get guys that have NEVER played football before. They start coming to the weight room and enjoy it, so they stay. We know if they will stick it out for the season after the pads go on and they make it through the spring football. Some come back to the weight room and some decide it isn't for them.
- The kids get to feel their strength and speed gains on the football field. All the hard work in the off season is put to the test.Championships are earned in the weight room during the off-season.
- Coaches get a chance to try some new things they learned through clinics in the off-season.
- Spring is a free trial and error period. If you try something and it doesn't work, there is not wasted time because there is not a game. If something new does work, coaches can work out some of the kinks and adapt it.
- Finally, because I love the game of football. I love developing the skills and techniques that are needed to be good. It doesn't matter what system you run. Football is blocking, tackling and
execution!!! Spring football gives you a chance to focus on fundamentals without having to worry about playing an opponent.
In Kentucky, we only get 10 days of spring practice. If you are interested in a Blank 10 Day scheduling and planning template, subscribe below.
