The power spread offense is a combination of taking the old school I and power I running game, quick pass, hot pass, screens and play action schemes and turning into a new school spread offense that utilizes the same principles or tough, physical football. I LOVE POWER FOOTBALL!!! In this day and age though, it is tough to get buy in from the kids and the community because the old school I and Power I are not as sexy as the spread offense. I have run this offense for 10 of my 11 years as a head coach with much deviation in yearly talent. Some years we have utilized a TE. Some years we ran the jet sweep as the core of our system. Some years we utilized 2 TE's. Some years we installed some 5-step drop passing plays. Some years single back exclusively and others we used multiple 2 Back sets. You can truly design this around your talent year in and year out.
What I love about this offense?
- It is a man blocking and gap scheme offense that utilizes easy to remember acronyms for blocking rules.
- Slam, power, counter, iso, toss, sweep, dive
- The rules will block any front you will see without variation and give your kids confidence to know they will never see a front they can't block or when they are caught by surprise.
- Tempo - You can huddle, no huddle, play slow, play fast. It is up to you and what your team needs to do to win.
- Passing game is simple and effective. The quick, hots, screens and PA passes are easy to install and perfect.
- Adaptability - Multiple formations allow for you to be Pro style, TE Spread or no TE spread depending on your personnel.
- It is a TOUGH, PHYSICAL, GATA spread offense in a finesse, pretty spread football world.
- QB run game gives you an edge and the ability to run power I schemes and outnumber the defense at the point of attack.
- You can run it without having a huge offensive line due to utilization of blocking angles and blocking smart.
- Your playbook is a menu. Each year you can pick and choose what items in the menu best fit your personnel so you can put put your kids in a situation to be successful without an offensive overhaul.
I am currently writing a book about the offense.

Coach, I’m running a Wisconsin All Star 6th grade team and will be implementing your offense. Can you tell me, for the purposes of the playbook, you used the same Max Rt Formation…
Are the Q plays meant to be run weak? Or either?
Do you have a publication of what play follows what play when it comes to setting up the defense?
Is there a chat room for your offense?
Do you have a wrist band editable doc to share? Or a filled out sample?
Are there any of these plays you wouldn’t run if you were coaching a 6th grade team?
That’s it for now,
Thank you,
Rex Holtz

I run double wing and power out of that for a high school in San Francisco. For the past few years we’ve moved to a spread formation as well. Would love to blend the two together.
Let me know when the book comes out. Interested to chat power football and spread with any one

Hey Coach,
When I was developing the blocking rules from a more advanced system into a much simpler acronym based system, I studied the double wing and utilized many of the acronyms used in the double wing. GOD for Gap On Down. GDB for Gap Down Backer. FBI for First Backer Inside, etc. The book is available on the site if you are interested. We are in the playoffs currently but would be happy to talk once the season ends. Thanks for the comment.

I’ve been a wing T guy for years and starting to venture into blending some of that stuff with the spread. The more I look into the spread offense I really like some of the power spread stuff. So, where can we get access to the video drills, practice schedule, installation plan, and teaching the offense PowerPoint?
Coach Lickert says
Coach,
Thanks for the message. There are several posts available on the site with video as well as my book that goes through in detail how we run the offense.
